Designed by cat loving MIT-trained engineers, ScoopFree features breakthrough technology to keep kitty clean and safe.
Explore some of ScoopFree’s patent-pending innovations that make ScoopFree good for you and great for your cat:
ScoopFree has a patent pending rake. Yes, a rake! What can be so special about a rake?!
Well, this rake “leans back” and automatically “flips over” when it reverses direction to help ScoopFree remove waste and groom the litter.
The rake has plenty of “oomph” to move through even the biggest litter mound. It flips over to get through the pile more easily, to spread out and level the litter bed.
The rake even “flips up” after it completes its raking stroke. This minimizes the buildup of debris behind the rake, and maximizes the space available for your cat.

The tines of the ScoopFree rake have rounded loops for extra safety.
Some other competitive litter boxes have metal rakes. While metal rakes are more durable than most plastic rakes, some competitive units’ metal rakes have sharp points. One competitor even turns its sharp rake upwards during its cleaning cycle!
Whatever automatic litter box you choose, ensure the mechanism is safe for your pets and children. Only ScoopFree has a rake with rounded loops for extra safety.
ScoopFree has an elegant and simple mechanism for enhanced reliability.
Other
automatic litter boxes deposit clumps into a bin, bag or drawer, which
require their mechanisms to move up and down, twist or even rotate.
The
ScoopFree rake sits on a screw, which, because there are no clumps,
travels back and forth linearly without any complex motion. This
simplicity leads to superior reliability.
A leading retailer tested several automatic litter boxes. By cycling the rake back and forth, letting the box rest a minute, and activating the rake again… and again… and again they determined that ScoopFree lasted longer than any of the other automatic litter boxes tested.
ScoopFree was the only box still running at the end of the 15,000 cycle test. This is a big number — suppose your cat used ScoopFree three times a day; 1,000 cycles would be about one year of use and 15,000 cycles would be equivalent to fifteen years of use by one cat!
The retailer said ScoopFree is the first automatic litter box that has worked for so many cycles without a failure. We have tested regular production Scoop Free litter boxes in our own testing lab. The results: more than 175,000 cycles without any failure!
Does this mean every ScoopFree will work flawlessly for decades and centuries? Probably not! But we are proud of ScoopFree’s engineering, and have endeavored to make it robust and tough to last longer than competitive products in real world situations.
The ScoopFree drive mechanism is protected from urine and litter scatter. Unlike some competitive models, there are no tracks which can clog or jam. ScoopFree has an elegant and simple screw and nut, that slides back and forth for extended durability. So let your cats dig, scratch and kick litter. ScoopFree can take it!
ScoopFree is designed to be robust and safe.
The ScoopFree rake will not start moving if a cat or another object obstructs the infrared sensor. If something enters the box after the rake begins to move, the force required to stall the rake while moving forward is about one-half the force required to stall competitive units.
If the rake encounters an obstruction during the reverse stroke, the rake will flex; then it will reverse direction and stop so you can remove the obstruction. The box will reset after 10 minutes. Other competitive units keep moving – either in the forward direction causing an “endless loop” or in the reverse direction causing “repeated crunching”.
When you choose an automatic litter box for your kitty, make sure you understand and are comfortable with the safety mechanisms in both the forward and reverse directions.
