See ScoopFree on TV in the first reality show for cats!

Reality show contestants will do anything to win. Whether it’s living on a deserted island, undergoing plastic surgery or eating cockroaches, they will stop at nothing to be the best. In the latest twist on the reality genre, competitors will be asked to lick themselves clean, chase balls of string, and relieve themselves in a litter box as they scratch and claw their way towards the grand prize. However, for these particular participants, accomplishing the tasks will be second nature. After all, they are cats. Ten felines from shelters all over the country have been selected to compete in the inaugural edition of The Meow Mix House. The cats traveled to New York City to live together in a specially-designed house, located at 425 Madison Avenue, from June 13th to 23rd. These cat-testants, selected from geographically and culturally diverse backgrounds, share a kitty crib that rivals any loft ever featured on the Real World. Thanks to webcams equipped in every room in the house, peeping tomcats with internet access can watch the action on www.MeowMixHouse.com — and find out just what cats do all day when their owners aren’t around.  Ten ScoopFree automatic litter boxes are places throughout the Meow Mix House.

How much is your cat worth to you?

Perhaps the better question is "How much is not having to clean your cat's litter box worth to you?"

Visit the local pet supply store or go online and you'll find devices, priced from $25 to hundreds of dollars, promising to make the chore more palatable.

Billed as self-cleaning litter boxes, the contraptions have drawn purrs of contentment from some cat owners, and howls from others. Durability and maintenance problems are among the biggest complaints.

"Some of them have a tendency to get clogged and jammed," said Alan Cook, president of Chicago-based Lucky Litter LLC, a new entrant in the automatic litter box arena.

His company's product, ScoopFree, promises cat owners a 30-day break from having to mess with the litter box. Lucky Litter has a licensing agreement with the Clorox Co. and uses the company's Fresh Step crystal litter.

"It's the first automatic litter box to be tied in with a national litter brand," Cook said.

Dayton Daily News

Laurie Denger writes, "You love your cat. But you hate cleaning the litter box. What to do? There are some automatic litter boxes that rake the litter into bags that you get rid of, but that still requires picking up the bags. Now, there is a new product that promises it is totally hands-free. No scooping, no cleaning, no emptying or refilling. ScoopFree automatic litter box uses a disposable litter tray cartridge pre-filled with Fresh Step litter."

"ScoopFree: the world's first litter box that NEVER needs cleaning, simply change a cartridge every 30 days. Both the editors of Dog Fancy and Cat Fancy said it was the coolest product they have seen in years! It has been said it was invented by 3 lazy boyfriends who did not want to clean out the litter box when watching their girlfriends cats -- that's true too."

Jamie's description of demoing Scoop Free
blog by Jamie Royal

"... So we just got a new account that I am working on. It's called Scoopfree. It's a cat litter device which has a mechanical "comb" which removes the cat's "business" from the litter...hence, scoop-free. It's very reminicient of the scene from Spaceballs, when they "comb the desert." For some reason, I can't shake that visual relationship. Anywayyyyyyy, being that I work for a field marketing company, we are running demos of the scoop free in stores like PetSmart, Petco etc. At this sort of event, typically there will be some sort of premium or candy give-away; therefore, when I was told to go pick up 8 bags of tootsie rolls, I did not intially question this task..."
